The house is located a few metres above the shoreline at the edge of pasture leading up to wooded cliffs at the rear and extending along the shore to the southern tip of the island, Bennan Head. The beach immediately to the front of the house is a mixture of shingle, sandy areas and lines of rocks with many rock pools. There is a large colony of seals and abundant bird life along the shore in front on the house. The view to the front is of the islands of Pladda and Ailsa Craig, with the Ayrshire coast in the distance.
Streamlet is a large four bedroomed cottage built in the early part of this century. Downstairs there is a large lounge, one bedroom and a kitchen with dining area. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom with separate WC. There is a second WC downstairs.
The accommodation, to sleep up to 10, is as follows:
There are storage heaters and portable electric fires downstairs as well as open fires in the lounge and kitchen/dining area. There are electric heaters in each of the bedrooms. There is an electric cooker, fridge and plenty of utensils in the kitchen. There is no television and also no telephone, although there is a public telephone at the end of the track leading from the road. We usually describe the house as comfortable rather than luxuriously furnished.
Linen is not provided, so please bring your own sheets, pillow-cases, towels and tea-towels. Pillows and blankets are provided. Well-behaved pets are welcome. There is space to park up to three cars at the front and to the side of the house.
The cottage is generally let on a week by week basis from Saturday to Saturday. Shorter periods can be booked, especially outside the main summer season although please note that the cottage is not available over Christmas or New Year.
