Lamlash Golf Club
HISTORY

1889 Club founded by a group of locals with the backing of Arran Estate and the Duke and Duchess of Montrose, after raising funds by organising trips on the Clyde Paddle Steamer "Neptune", Captained by William Buchan. Started as a nine hole course and the first clubhouse was a teak ships' cabin/wheelhouse.

1893 William Fernie, who won the Open in 1883, was credited with the 9 hole course record.

1896 William Auchterlonie designed an 18 hole layout with holes round the Blairmore farm steading.

1903 The members built a grand new clubhouse

1904 New clubhouse opened in the presence of the Duchess of Hamilton and Willie Fernie was engaged to play an exhibition game. The Captain and Officers of H.M.S.Aurora presented the ship's clock to the club.

1908 William Fernie instrumental in designing new holes to improve the layout.

1909 Home Fleet Cup presented to the club.

1910 First competition of the "Fleet Cup" held

1921 Lamlash joined the Scottish Golf Union

1934 New starters hut built

1937 Sunday play approved at Lamlash

1958 First extension to the clubhouse built

1959 Arran Estate invited the club to purchase the golf course

1969 New Medal tees constructed to increase the par to 63

1977 Extension of the club lounge created

1993 Refurbishment of the lounge and creation of new entrance hall

1998 Development of club extension, providing changing rooms with all modern facilities, a tea room, and a new roof over all the building. May 31st, Craig Young set a new course record of 60 and equalled it on June 28th
